Blog Competition

To have a little fun, I’ve bought a Google Adwords campaign and am running an online competition. Enter by clicking through the advert if you see it and posting a comment. The competition finishes at midnight on the 24th June 2007.

On the 25th June, I will randomly select a name from those who have commented on this post (amplify.co.nz/…/blog-competition) and respond to their email address as provided with the posted comment. The questions I will ask that person to answer correctly are: “what is the exact prize advertised on the advert and which site did you see it on?” Get those two questions right and the prize is yours. Get them wrong and I keep the prize.

The judge’s (that’s me) decision is final. Please do not mention the prize or site in your comment. Good luck.

  1. MG Says:

Well, I found the first advert and clicked through just fine. Let the games begin.

  2. Andrew Butel Says:

    That was easy.

  3. MG Says:

Nice work, Andrew. I wasn’t sure if people would ‘get it’, so your entry is reassuring. 17 impressions overnight (2 clicks, total:14c) but only one entry. People are scared of winning. Good prize, huh.

  4. Dr Broad Says:

You may be first Andrew, But I know where MG keeps his hidden coin stash.

  5. RC Says:

This is even better than that time I found that board game Jumanji up in the attic.

  6. BenL Says:

Is the prize new or second-hand?

  7. Martha Craig Says:

    The pressure!

  8. Martha Craig Says:

    heh, found it. Clever clogs.

  9. Martha Craig Says:

And the time difference between my 2 comments doesn’t indicate that I spent 22 minutes finding it, more that I spent 22 minutes outside with small black bitch.

  10. MG Says:

You guys are on to it. I’m now changing some key words to make it a little harder. 80 impressions, 7 clicks, $1.89. I’m paying too much.

  11. Martha Craig Says:

I have to admit, I clicked twice. I owe you 14 cents.

  12. Ange Says:

That had better not be the [Ed: beep] you got for xmas MG! ;-) I found it. Count me in!

  13. Fish Says:

    Too easy

  14. Andrew Says:

Still easy - but you need more than 10 clicks to get you on page 1 in google.

  15. Cathi Says:

Despite being the thickest person on two legs I eventually found it. Yay me :)

  16. Liv Says:

    Im in!

  17. MG Says:

Yesterday it was easy. My name or the blog name worked. Or Xero, Fronde or Kiwiblog plus a couple of random others. Spent $3.84 for 2794 impressions and 21 clicks. 18c per click is still too expensive. Today it’s the name of a female blogger and a few assorted random words for fun.

  18. brenda Says:

Easy Peasy :) Don’t you have enough to do MG? ;-)

  19. Glen Barris Says:

    Love her work

  20. MG Says:

Oooooh, you are all so clever. Tomorrow’s clue will be bowling related …

  21. Susi Says:

    By george I think she’s got it…

  22. MG Says:

    30 clicks in 2 days, 18c av.cpc, 7484 impres. 0.40% ctr. Am I making it too hard?

  23. Cathi Says:

    hints?

  24. MG Says:

    Cathi - teams

  25. Martha Craig Says:

Got it. I like this competition.

  26. Martha Craig Says:

Should I click through for all the ones I find, therefore costing you more cents?

  27. MG Says:

Feel free, Martha. Thanks for the awesome link too. Tomorrow’s clue is the day the Allied forces landed on Gallipoli. Won’t work until tomorrow morning.

  28. Martha Craig Says:

Found you again, that must be worth another entry (without being totally stalkerish).

  29. mw Says:

    Count me in.

  30. Dave Allen Says:

This is my first blog ever and maybe my last if its not fruitful.

  31. geeta Says:

  36. Mama Mia... Says:

  43. Jim Donovan Says:

Me - an [prize]? What’s that?

  44. Ben Kepes Says:

got it - and i don’t have one of those yet (well I’ve got a cheap knock off but you can’t do that cool turn-y thing with your finger…..
    get it?

  45. Liv Says:

How many times are we allowed to enter?

  46. Liv Says:

You need to make it harder, I just found two more ;)

  47. MG Says:

As many as you like. Don’t say I don’t listen to my audience. I’m pausing ‘femtocell’ and ‘WCDMA’ and picking tough phrases like marlborough sounds from now on.

  48. Martha Craig Says:

Man, I’d better win. I’m spending too much time on vanity searches - and not my own!

  49. Liv Says:

Haha you got me with that one, literally! Wonder how long it was there before I found it..

  50. Alan Says:

    Finally got one. :-)

  51. MG Says:

Liv, ego-surfing on a Friday night is just plain wrong. It was there for a week. I wonder who will be next? Jessi?

  52. Liv Says:

OoOh I got another one! Right.. back to work.

  53. Benjamin Says:

Michael, you are possibly the first known NZ case of SNOS (social networking overdose syndrome). Anyone with their own: blog, facebook, myspace and flickr sites… didn’t play with enough crayons at kindergarten!

  54. Mike Says:

    Happy blogging!

  55. Martha Craig Says:

    Ha, gottit!

  56. MG Says:

NOW CLOSED. Draw this evening. Stay tuned for an announcement.

  57. geeta Says:

26th june: que pasa???? really mg, this is no longer a matter of “swiss timing”. was the [prize] just bait to drive traffic?

  58. MG Says:

Blog comp announced after the drawn ‘number’ correctly emails back with answers to the two test questions. Check your email! I’m waiting for a response … how long should I leave it?

  59. MG Says:

And the winner is …. Mike Rishworth who correctly answered the two test questions.

Here’s his email from San Diego:
Hi, delayed reply, in San Diego right now.
    1. ipod nano
    2. google.com keyword “cable car challenge” 18 June
    Cheers, Mike Rishworth from Gisborne.

Well done Mike. Choose your favourite colour and it’s on its way.

  60. MG Says:

Thanks to everyone who entered. I hope you enjoyed the challenge. Martha - your ten entries were all counted in the draw but there can be only one winner from the random number generator - no. 54. For the record, 69 clicks cost NZ$0.21ea, total cost for the campaign of $14.45. Plus the iPod.

  61. Podeosteons Says:
